Going that EXTRA-MILE ---Ebay Style

What I like about E-Bay is that it goes beyond the buying and selling of goods. It has incorporated in its website a community that goes beyond what Ebay is really about. By clicking on this link, http://hub.ebay.com/community one can learn more about the added vision and goals of Ebay, which is saving the environment and giving an entire community a way to interact with each other. Anyone can get involved with its charity and environmental programs. It also promotes links to the american Red Cross and cancer society of America.

My criteria for a successful website (as I have recommended in my website evaluation paper )is to have an environmental section and a community base program section to promote something that is very helpful to our world today.

So GOOD JOB E-bay!

  1. Very interesting. I never knew this was incorporated by ebay. Also great point about other website being more successful if they can demonstrate giving something back to the world.

  2. I appreciate your criteria for estimating a successful website very much. I just saw eBay as a simple organization of buying and selling goods before I read this post of you. And you just remind me that this criterion is not only for website, but for everybody living in this world as well. What is the criterion for a successful life? I think it’s a good answer that being helpful to the world.

  3. What I find interesting about this section of eBay is the inclusion of eBay profile creating. It seems no matter what website we go to, there is a way to make a personal profile on that page and interact with other people/profiles. It got me thinking about how someone might represent themselves on eBay and how that might not match up with their representations on facebook, or a yoga website for example. I'm not sure of the implications for education, but I think identity creation online is definitely an interetsing theme for techers to explore.

And way to go eBay for being community and environmentally conscious!

  4. Well, going green is the way to go! Since we are in the "green revolution" era, i think it behooves all companies to have a "green" aspect to their product or service. Even something as simple as recycling can help a company eb apart of the "green revolution".

  5. This fits right in with Syracuse! Since Syracuse and its community are trying to become "green" and environmentally concious, this fits right in! People are becoming more and more concious of the environment each and everyday.
