Who doesn't want to have their own business? On-line entrepreneurship as espoused by e-bay is a good point to start of what could be a very profitable career. http://www.entrepreneur.com/startingabusiness/insuringyourbusiness/article159930.html. I think everyone likes to have a job or "on the side" job that they can just do from the comforts of their home. E-bay is conducting trainings and learnings that will make this dream job come true for most people. Buying and selling is the basic tool that makes businesses what they are outside and inside the internet world. From-ebay, we would know what the pulse of the world is---what they usually buy and what they usually sell.http://www.articlesbase.com/internet-articles/learn-what-sells-on-ebay-1273822.html. E-bay has millions of clients and what better way of finding what the latest trend is than looking at what the client of ebay is doing.
These articles are quite interesting! Last evening I went to a lecture on campus about critical pedagogy and the speaker, Ernest Morrell highlighted the Expectancy Value theory in education. This describes student motivation in terms of the value they place on the learning task and the expectancy or confidence they have that they will be able to complete it. Seems to be like a project surrounding ebay would capitalize on both areas. Money is always relevant! And since students would be using the Internet/technology, most likely they would feel confident that they can navigate and learn through this medium. The articles you posted make it seem that ebay possess lots of marketing, business, mathematics lessons embedded in its overall function and I could definitely see a math or marketing type class in which students track selling trends, sell something of their own, or create their own tutorial on using and maximizing profits on ebay. They might even engage in comparative research with other sites... lots of interesting applications!

Hi Ryan, it's a very good point to relate ebay to career and job which are the most significant things we students concern nowadays. From those articles I found that there are huge potential opportunities on ebay. As Jilian said that some math or marketing class students are practicing using and maximizing profits by activities on ebay, I think it’s a very practical and interesting way to make students learn and practice in a real activity. I hope there can be such kind of practicle activities in our program study.
ReplyDeleteWow!! Who would have thought that there were such opportunities and resources out there on EBAY!?
