YOUTUBE REPORTS

I am using youtube a lot in my school reports here at Syracuse, especially for Tiffany's class in IDE 621. I am going to share a few videos that I used in my Behaviorism Knowledge Base. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_ctJqjlrHA - this first link is about Skinners experiment. The second is about Thorndike's puzzle Box http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDujDOLre-8 and this third video is my favorite! enjoy it! Surprise. So I am really using Youtube a lot to help me out understand the different theories that I have been learning at IDE 621---> I hope you guys can also use this technology for your upcoming reports!

  1. The video's are helpful (esp. since I am learning the same material that you are learning). I wish I would have seen these much earlier! We're you a usual youtube user prior to coming to the states?

  2. Hey these videos are excellent. I too am a regular on YouTube and find it a great way to quickly and easily explain topics that appear complicated to me in writing. Pretty much every week I am researching the discussion topic for IDE 611. I find that seeing examples on video helps me to understand more. YouTube can do wonders for education I feel.

  3. Wow, I am really behind on my Youtube expertise as I never think of Youtube as a place to find instructional material, only enteratinment! However, I could absolutely see it as a way to motivate high schoolers. A few weeks ago, some boys in the class I observe at a local high school asked me if I had seen a specific funny Youtube video. I said no, of course they couldn't believe it! But, how great will it be if I can connect teenagers' innate fascination with Youtube with instructional material! Maybe I could get them creating their own instructional material to put there for other learners.
    Thanks for sharing!

  4. I have similar feeling with Jilian that I always think of Youtube as a place for entertainment before I saw your blog. Very nice and interesting intruduction from another angle to see Youtube. I think maybe I can also search on Youtube for some instructional material to facilitate my study. Why not? Expect to see more of your post on Youtube.

  5. Poor Bryan. Boy, am I glad I don't have roommates anymore. Kids, yes (my shoes disappear occasionally). Roommates, no.

I would like to add that although videos are a great way to acquire this knowledge (especially from Skinner himself), I have worked with some script writers who are complete idiots, and producers who have more regard for meeting deadlines and duration constraints than making a well-formed product.

I think that if the linking and reference experience of text were more thoroughly integrated into YT, then it would be a richer academic experience. It is going in that direction already, although the "killer app" for this is, of course, is advertising.

Ryan, I suggest opening a free Channel account with YT so that you can publish your own (or favorite) videos, AND be able to compose hotlinks embedded into the video. If you had all the time in the world, you could theoretically present your KB as one annotated, hotlinked YT video!

  6. ella, I just recently used youtube for educational purposes only when I came here---I usually use it for pure entertainment as well.

Thanks for the comments folks. Appreciate it.
